Another week, another set of real sold prices pulled straight from eBay — not asking prices, not guesses. Here are five categories where the data says there's money on the table right now, and the one thing you need to know to find it.
Vintage Zippo Lighters ~$36.50
Vintage Zippos are currently selling around $36.50 at the median, but they're up 78% week over week — the strongest percentage mover on the board this run. The qualifier that matters: date codes. Every Zippo made after 1955 carries a date stamp on the bottom, and pre-1960 slim cases, town-and-country painted enamel lids, and any lighter with a military theater engraving can clear $100–$175 easily. The ones that sit are the plain brushed-chrome lighters with no story — the ones that sell fast are the ones with a unit, a name, or a rare insert. Flip the bottom before you pass.
Vintage Pendleton ~$51
Vintage Pendleton is currently selling around $51 at the median, but the spread is where the real lesson is: the right pieces are clearing $115 while common examples sit at $36 — a 3.2× gap, the widest spread in the apparel verticals this week. The tell is the label. Pre-1960 Pendletons carry a black-and-white woven label with no care instructions; the board shirt in a plaid with a Native American geometric pattern and that early label is the one worth carrying home. Anything with a sewn-in care tag is post-1971 and worth less. Learn the label sequence once and you'll never overpay again.
Vintage Sewing Machines ~$123.74
Vintage sewing machines are currently selling around $123.74 at the median — and they're up 61% week over week, one of the biggest moves on the board. The spread tells the whole story: a Singer Featherweight 221 is currently clearing $347.50 while a common treadle or a post-1960 cabinet machine sits around $95. The Featherweight is the one to know: it's a small, black, portable machine made from 1933 to 1964, weighs about 11 pounds, and has a distinctive oval badge on the front. Serial numbers starting with AF, AJ, or EJ are the most sought-after variants. If it's a Featherweight and it runs, buy it at almost any price under $80.
Vintage Levi's 501 ~$59.97
Vintage Levi's 501s are currently selling around $59.97 at the median, up 12% week over week, with a 2.1× spread between common pairs and the ones that matter — Big E and redline selvedge examples are clearing $99.88 and up. The tell is on the back pocket: a Big E red tab (capital E on both sides) dates the jean to pre-1971, and a redline selvedge — visible as a red thread running along the inseam — dates it even earlier. Check the inside waistband too: a single-digit or two-digit size stamp without a care label means pre-1971. These details take ten seconds to check and they're the difference between a $25 flip and a $100 one.
Snap-on Tools ~$150
Snap-on socket and ratchet sets are currently selling around $150 at the median, and the complete ones clear $350 and up — with the best USA-stamped sets running past $500. This is a category where completeness is everything. A full chrome-vanadium socket set with the Kenosha, Wisconsin stamp, in its original roll or case, is what holds that $150-plus median; break it up and the loose single sockets and orphaned wrenches sell for a few dollars each. The qualifier that matters is the USA stamp, the matched series, and the original storage staying with the set. Buy complete sets intact and pass on the loose orphans — the entire premium lives in the set staying together.
